Meet the Teltonika Oxa: A Credit-Card-Sized Embedded IoT Gateway for OEMs
Teltonika has launched the Oxa — a compact embedded IoT gateway built for OEMs and industrial integrators who need professional cellular connectivity inside their own equipment. It packs 4G LTE Cat 4, Gigabit Ethernet, the feature-rich RutOS and native Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA and BACnet support into a credit-card-sized, 36-gram board, so device manufacturers can skip custom module-level development entirely. Here's what it offers and who it's for.
For original equipment manufacturers, adding reliable cellular connectivity to a product has long meant choosing between two compromises. Custom module-level development offers a minimal footprint but demands serious engineering resources, complex certification and long development cycles. External boxed gateways are easier to deploy, yet often too bulky — and aesthetically mismatched — for sleek, integrated industrial designs.
The new Teltonika Oxa is the middle ground. It's a compact, embedded IoT gateway engineered specifically for OEM and industrial integrations: a fully functional, pre-certified networking board that manufacturers embed directly into their host equipment, with no module-level engineering required.

Big capability, credit-card footprint
The Oxa is defined by its space efficiency — the board is roughly the size of a credit card, and four pre-drilled mounting holes (∅ 2.70 mm) let hardware architects secure it firmly inside a host chassis. Despite the size, it's rated for genuinely industrial environments:
| Dimensions | 70 x 18.2 x 67.7 mm |
|---|---|
| Weight | 36 g |
| Operating temperature | -40 °C to +75 °C |
| CPU | ARM Cortex-A7, 1.3 GHz |
| Memory | 128 MB DDR2 RAM, 512 MB SPI flash |
| Mounting | 4 x pre-drilled holes (Ø 2.70 mm) |
| Ordering code | EBG140AAAA00 (gateway + Quick Start Guide; PSU not included) |
Connectivity: LTE Cat 4, Gigabit Ethernet and a debug-friendly USB port
Board-level doesn't mean bare-bones. The Oxa carries a versatile interface array:
- 4G LTE Cat 4 — up to 150 Mbps down / 50 Mbps up, with 3G and 2G fallback. An internal 2FF (Mini SIM) holder and a dedicated SMA connector for the mobile antenna.
- Gigabit Ethernet — a single 10/100/1000 Mbps port for high-speed local data transfer.
- Micro-USB “Virtual Network Interface” — local configuration and debugging without tying up the Ethernet port; a genuinely useful touch for engineers on the bench.
- Power + I/O on one connector — a 4-pin industrial DC socket (9–30 VDC) that also carries the hardware digital input and digital output (1x DI, 1x DO), simplifying wiring-harness design.
- 11 status LEDs — connection type, signal strength, LAN and power, positioned so enclosure designers can surface them through light pipes.
Industrial intelligence: RutOS and deep protocol support
The Oxa runs RutOS — the same OpenWrt-based Linux environment as Teltonika's RUT routers and TRB gateways — on its 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7. That gives it far more headroom than a simple modem, and the software stack is built for industrial integration:
- Automation & energy: native Modbus (server/client), DNP3 (station/outstation), OPC UA and BACnet over TCP.
- Utilities: DLMS support for standard meter data exchange.
- Data handling: “Data to Server” parameter extraction, plus MQTT in both broker and publisher roles for modern IoT architectures.
- Custom applications: multiple programming languages, including Lua, C/C++, Java and Python; a Package Manager installs only the services your application actually needs.
Security and fleet management
Security is enterprise-grade out of the box: OpenVPN (27 encryption methods), IPsec (14 methods), WireGuard, ZeroTier and more for tunnelling, alongside a preconfigured firewall, VLAN separation and built-in prevention against DDoS, port scans and SSH attacks.
For deployments at scale, the Oxa is fully compatible with the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS) — centralised management, real-time monitoring and firmware-over-the-air updates across large device fleets.
The OEM advantage
For device manufacturers, the Oxa's pitch is strategic rather than just technical:
- Faster time-to-market — skip the module-level development and certification cycle with a ready-to-integrate gateway.
- Branded firmware — GPL customisation lets OEMs re-skin the WebUI (colours, logos and more) to match their own identity.
- Modular software — install only the packages the application requires.
- Seamless embedding — connectivity integrates into the host product, with no external boxes or bulky mounting.
Teltonika's launch materials point at exactly the kind of deployment this suits: outdoor gates, turnstiles and barriers that need instant, secure access validation but sit far from wired infrastructure — an Oxa inside the controller delivers LTE connectivity without trenching, fibre or Ethernet runs.
