FNIRSI's best-selling 1013D tablet oscilloscope reviewed: dual channels, a 7-inch touchscreen, 1 GSa/s sampling and 4-hour battery in a device the size of a paperback.

If the DSO-TC3 is FNIRSI's best-selling gadget, the 1013D is its best-selling oscilloscope — the product that put the brand on hobbyist benches worldwide. It looks like a chunky 7-inch tablet, runs for hours on its own battery, and replaces the knob-farm of a traditional scope with a touchscreen. Now stocked at Tech2Have.

What is it?

The 1013D is a dual-channel digital storage oscilloscope built for maintenance and R&D work: 100 MHz bandwidth per channel with a 1 GSa/s real-time sampling rate, driven entirely through a 7-inch 800×480 touchscreen. Pinch to zoom the timebase, drag cursors with a finger, and hit the one-key AUTO button to lock onto a waveform — it's the least intimidating first scope there is.

Using it

The full trigger suite (single / normal / auto with adaptive 25/50/75% levels) handles both periodic analog signals and one-shot digital events. Input range scales with the probe setting — 0–40 V at 1X, 0–400 V at 10X, and up to 4,000 V with a 100X high-voltage probe like the P4100 — behind a built-in high-voltage protection module. Extras you don't expect at this level: FFT viewing, Lissajous display, cursor measurements, peak detection, one-key screenshots and 1 GB of storage for around 1,000 saved waveforms, exportable over USB.

Battery and portability

A 6,000 mAh battery gives roughly 4 hours of continuous use, and it keeps working while charging — so it moves between the bench, the switchboard and the car without hunting for a power point. This is the scope you grab for field diagnostics and take to a mate's workshop.
Honest expectations: community bench tests (see the EEVblog teardown threads) suggest the usable analog bandwidth sits below the 100 MHz headline figure, and there's no serial-protocol decoding. For audio, power, automotive, MCU-peripheral and general repair work it's superb value; for fast digital-bus debugging, look at a benchtop instrument like the DPOS350P.

Who should buy it

Anyone who wants a real two-channel scope without a bench to put it on: students learning signals, hobbyists debugging Arduino/ESP32 projects, and field technicians diagnosing power supplies, inverters and motor drives. The 1014D is the same tablet-scope platform with a built-in DDS signal generator added — worth the step up if you inject test signals as well as measure them.

Yes, with the right probe setting: 400 V at 10X and up to 4,000 V with a 100X probe such as the P4100, behind built-in high-voltage protection. Always use a properly rated probe for mains work.

For repair, education and general electronics — mostly yes. You give up serial decoding, deep memory and the last stretch of real bandwidth versus a bench instrument, which is why FNIRSI's own DPOS350P exists for heavier work.
