Ubiquiti for Small Business: A Complete UniFi Network Blueprint

How to build a reliable, secure UniFi network for a small business — gateway, switching, WiFi, cameras, phones and internet failover — with room to scale to multiple sites.

For a small business, the network is the business: EFTPOS, cloud apps, phones and cameras all ride on it. UniFi lets you run all of that from one license-free platform, with one app and no per-seat fees. Here's a sensible blueprint.

1. Gateway: the secure core

Pick a gateway with the throughput and threat-inspection headroom your connection deserves. Fibre-connected offices should look at the UCG-Fiber (10G WAN + PoE); busier sites at the Dream Machine Pro Max or Gateway Enterprise.

2. Switching: power everything over one cable

PoE switching powers your APs, cameras and phones over the same cable that carries data. Size the PoE budget and port count to your device list, and choose 2.5 GbE access if you're deploying WiFi 7. Our switch guide covers how.

3. WiFi: coverage that holds up under load

Business WiFi has to handle density, not just range. The U7 Pro covers most offices; high-density areas (boardrooms, retail) benefit from the U7 Pro XGS with its extra streams and dedicated scanning radio.

4. Resilience: stay online

Add a UniFi 5G Backup ($99) for automatic cellular failover so an NBN outage doesn't stop trade. UniFi Network 10.4 surfaces full 5G telemetry so you can see backup health at a glance.

5. Add cameras, phones and sensors

Round it out with UniFi Protect cameras, UniFi Talk phones (no per-seat licence) and UniFi sensors for water-leak and environmental alerts in server rooms and stockrooms — all in the same console.

No — UniFi Network, Protect and Talk are license-free. Your ongoing costs are internet, any SIP/number service for phones, and optional cellular data for failover.

Yes — the new Site Manager unifies multiple sites into a single Fabric with zero-touch provisioning. Start with one site and grow.

A few cameras can run on a Dream Machine; for a real system use a dedicated UNVR so storage and retention scale independently.

We design, supply and configure complete UniFi networks for businesses.
