UniFi U7 Pro Review: The WiFi 7 Access Point Most People Should Buy

The U7 Pro is Ubiquiti's mainstream WiFi 7 ceiling AP — tri-band 6 GHz, a 2.5 GbE uplink and 300+ device capacity. We look at why it's the default choice for most homes and offices.

Ubiquiti's WiFi 7 line-up has a lot of options, but the U7 Pro is the one most people should start with. It's the sweet spot: full tri-band WiFi 7 with 6 GHz, a 2.5 GbE uplink to keep up with multi-gig internet, and capacity for a busy home or office — at a sensible price.

  • 6-Stream Tri-Radio WiFi 7 Tri-radio 2.4/5/6 GHz with 6 spatial streams for consistent performance across bands.
  • 140 m² (1,500 ft²) Coverage Large-area coverage with support for 300+ connected devices.
  • Wide 6 GHz Channels Supports wider WiFi 7 channels up to 320 MHz for higher throughput.
  • 2.5 GbE PoE+ RJ45 Uplink Multi-gig uplink supports consistent performance under heavy traffic, especially in high-density deployments.

The jump to the XG buys you a 10 GbE uplink; the XGS adds an eighth stream, more client headroom and a dedicated scanning radio. Unless you have 10G cabling and very high density, the plain U7 Pro is enough — and we reviewed the XG separately if you want the fast-uplink option.

Pros

  • Full WiFi 7 with 6 GHz
  • 2.5 GbE uplink matches multi-gig internet
  • Handles 300+ devices
  • Cleanly powered by PoE+ from a UniFi switch
  • Great price-to-performance

Cons

  • No 10G uplink (step up to XG/XGS)
  • Ceiling-mount form factor only
  • 6 GHz range is shorter — plan AP placement

You get the headline 6 GHz/MLO gains with WiFi 7 clients, but older devices still connect faster thanks to more capacity and the 2.5 GbE uplink removing the wired bottleneck.

As a rough guide, one per ~140 m² of usable space, adjusted for walls and density. We can do a proper coverage plan for your floorplan.

A PoE+ port — any UniFi PoE switch will do. See our switch buying guide to size the PoE budget for your APs.
