UniFi Protect 7.1 and the 2nd-Gen UniFi NVR: Video Walls and Double the Capacity

Protect 7.1 adds custom video walls, smarter detection, PTZ vehicle tracking and expanded ONVIF — alongside a second-generation UniFi NVR that doubles camera capacity and adds a built-in ViewPort display output.

Announced 13 May 2026. Protect 7.1 is a free update; the 2nd-gen UniFi NVR is new hardware available now.

UniFi Protect 7.1 is the software half of a one-two punch with the second-generation UniFi NVR. Together they push UniFi's video offering further into territory that used to require dedicated VMS platforms.

What's new in Protect 7.1

  • Custom video walls in Site Manager with synchronised, low-latency multi-stream rendering
  • Fully customisable dashboard widgets with instant automation via webhook shortcuts
  • Retrained smart-detection engine with improved accuracy across environments
  • PTZ tracking now recognises vehicles
  • Native immersive downloads for 360° cameras
  • Expanded ONVIF support, including audio and motion detection
  • SuperLink KeyFob for encrypted remote command execution

The 2nd-Generation UniFi NVR

The new UNVR doubles camera capacity versus the previous generation and adds an integrated ViewPort output so you can drive a display directly from the recorder — handy for a reception monitor or a small control room without a separate viewer device.

  • (8) Drive Bay Storage Supports up to (8) HDDs with RAID for high-capacity video storage.
  • Integrated Edge AI Built-in Edge AI enables object vector encoding, semantic search, and advanced re-identification (ReID) on connected cameras.
  • Up to (50) 4K Cameras Supports up to (100) HD, (70) 2K, or (50) 4K cameras for scalable deployments.
  • 10G SFP+ Port High-speed 10G SFP+ connectivity enables seamless integration into high-bandwidth network environments.
  • HDMI Port (Viewport) Integrated HDMI output enables direct connection to a display for live monitoring

The 2nd-Generation UniFi NVR (official Ubiquiti video)

Protect 7.1 is a free software update for supported UniFi Protect consoles and NVRs. The new hardware features (like ViewPort and doubled capacity) are specific to the 2nd-gen NVR.

Yes — custom video walls live in Site Manager, which aggregates cameras across sites with synchronised, low-latency rendering.

Expanded ONVIF support improves interoperability with third-party cameras, now including audio and motion detection. Feature depth is always best with native UniFi cameras, but ONVIF helps you bring existing hardware along.
