Which PoE standard do I need?

Match the device: PoE (802.3af) for basic APs/phones, PoE+ (802.3at) for most cameras and higher-power APs, and PoE++ (802.3bt) for PTZ cameras, displays and Wi-Fi 7 flagships. Make sure your switch's total PoE budget covers all devices.

Cat5e, Cat6 or outdoor ToughCable?

Cat5e handles gigabit fine; Cat6 is recommended for 2.5/10G and longer runs. For outdoor or exposed runs use shielded, UV-rated cable such as UniFi/UISP ToughCable with proper grounding.

When do I need fibre and SFP modules?

Use fibre with SFP/SFP+ modules for high-speed uplinks between switches, long distances beyond copper's 100 m limit, or electrically noisy environments. Match the module type and connector to both ends.

Do I need a UPS?

A UPS keeps your gateway, switch and NVR running through power blips and outages — preventing dropouts and protecting recordings and hardware. Size it to your equipment's wattage and the runtime you need.
