UniFi Protect Smart Sensors (UP-Sense): Tiny Sensors, Big Peace of Mind

The UniFi Protect Smart Sensor (UP-Sense) packs motion, temperature, humidity and light sensing into one small device — here's how it works for homes and small businesses, and how it differs from SuperLink.

Some of the most useful UniFi gear is also the smallest. The UniFi Protect Smart Sensor (UP-Sense) combines motion, temperature, humidity and ambient-light sensing in one tidy unit that reports straight into UniFi Protect.

UP-Sense — take a closer look

Spin the model to see the compact form factor.

  • Temperature and Humidity Sensors Integrated temperature and humidity sensors provide continuous environmental monitoring with precise, real-time measurements. Enables proactive alerts to help maintain optimal operating conditions.
  • CR123A Battery Operates on a single CR123A battery for long-lasting, reliable performance.
  • Door Contact Sensor Integrated magnetic contact sensor detects door open and close events with precision.

What it senses

  • Motion — presence and activity detection
  • Temperature — useful for server rooms, cellars, nurseries
  • Humidity — mould risk, comfort, storage conditions
  • Ambient light — drive lighting/blind automations

The UP-Sense 3-Pack bundles three (and adds water sensing) for covering multiple rooms affordably.

Real uses at home and work

  • Home: nursery temperature/humidity, hallway motion for night-lights, a cellar damp-warning
  • SMB: server-room temperature alerts before equipment overheats, after-hours motion, storeroom humidity monitoring

Simple rule: UP-Sense for environmental + motion sensing that reports into Protect; SuperLink (USL) when you want a long-range wireless security system with door/glass-break sensors across a larger site. Many setups use both — see our SuperLink explainer.

It reports into UniFi Protect on your UniFi system. For long-range wireless coverage across a big site, that's where the SuperLink gateway comes in.

Yes — sensor events drive Protect automations: start a recording, turn on a UniFi flood light, or send a notification.

No — like the rest of UniFi, it's license-free once you own the hardware.
